Become a Driving Instructor

How to become a driving instructor:

The road to becoming an ADI (Approved Driving Instructor) may seem daunting but with our help you could soon be on your way to a new career. Say goodbye to your boring 9.00 to 5.00 job and enjoy the freedom and independence of being your own boss.

We offer a full programme of training covering all three parts of the exam. Part I of the exam is a Theory Test and Hazard Perception Test, conducted at your local test centre. Before you start the course with us, we will take a look at your driving during a free 1 hour assessment drive and discuss with you how many hours you will need to bring your driving up to scratch for the Part II Practical Test. Once you have passed the second part of the exam, you can begin the training to pass the final part of the exam, the Instructional Ability exam.

Part I Theory and Hazard Perception Test.

We provide a full range of literature needed to complete this part of your training, along with guidance and tips on how to learn all you will need to know as well as a number of mock tests to prepare you for the exam.

Part II Practical Driving Test

You are probably a good driver already or you would not be considering becoming a driving instructor. However, the chances are you will have developed a number of "bad habits" over the years; our qualified trainers will explain what you need to do to bring your driving skills up to the standard required for the test.

Part III Instructional Ability.

The third part of the test is a test of your ability to teach someone to drive. This training is carried out in the car with your trainer who will show you the techniques required in order to pass on the knowledge you have gained. At this stage in your training you will actually be working as a driving instructor, improving your techniques and perfecting your teaching skills as you earn.

ESM has been training driving instructors since 1999 with extremely high pass rates. We understand that everyone is different and will learn at different rates, and because of that, all our training is tailored to the needs and abilities of the individual instructor.

You may choose to complete the training on a full time basis or, if it's easier for you, you can train while still keeping your old job. Either way, your trainer will constantly monitor your progress and discuss any concerns you may have as you progress.
